Do I need a GP referral to see a chiropodist?

No. For private chiropody you can book directly without a referral from your GP. (A referral is usually only needed to access NHS podiatry, where waiting lists and eligibility criteria apply.)

What's the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist?

There is no difference. "Podiatrist" is simply the more modern term for the same profession. Both are trained to assess and treat conditions of the feet and lower limbs, and in the UK the title is protected by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

What happens at my first appointment?

Your chiropodist will discuss your medical history and any concerns, examine your feet, skin and toenails, provide a diagnosis, and carry out treatment where appropriate. You'll also get advice on caring for your feet at home. A routine appointment typically lasts around 30-60 minutes, though complex problems may take longer.

What should I bring, and how should I prepare?

Bring a list of any medication you take and mention any allergies or health conditions such as diabetes. Wearing your usual footwear helps, as the chiropodist may want to check it. If you're booking a biomechanical or gait assessment, bring the shoes or trainers you wear most often and wear loose trousers or shorts.

How much does an appointment cost?

Prices vary by treatment type. We're happy to confirm current pricing when you book. New clients can book appointments starting at £50. Regular 30-min chiropody are from £45. Verruca treatments are from £44.

How many appointments will I need?

This depends entirely on your condition. Some issues are resolved in a single visit, while others, such as ongoing nail care or verrucae, may need a course of treatment. Your chiropodist can give you an estimate after your initial assessment.

Can I claim the cost back on health insurance?

Some private health insurance policies cover podiatry, though it depends on your plan and often requires a referral. Check directly with your insurer before booking.
